Off-campus websites are currently unavailable. Technicians are working with our ISP to resolve the issue.

Intermittent Internet Connection Outages
Beginning about 5:45pm the EMU Internet connection had intermittent outages lasting 15-25 minutes each. We are not sure what is causing these outages. Our Internet service provider (ISP) has been contacted and they are monitoring the circuit and will give us an assessment later this evening.

At 9:45pm tonight we received report from our ISP that no problems with our Internet circuit have been observed in the logged events. The circuit will continue to be monitored. (posted 11/23/05 22:30)

There have been repeated outages of about 20-30 minutes about every 2-3 hours on Thanksgiving Day (11/24). We do not know the cause of the outages. We have limited resources available to troubleshoot the problem. We have initiated an automated monitoring service to assist with our diagnosis. (posted 11/24/05 19:30)

External monitor log indicates that 20 minute outages continue to occur but NOT consistently every 2 hours. Further diagnostics on Friday morning (11/25) indicate that the problem is probably within the EMU network infrastructure. Info Systems is working to diagnose the problem and fix it. (posted 11/25/05 11:50).

Info Systems techs worked on-site from 12:30-3:00pm (11/25) and concluded the problem was internal to EMU. Rebooted one of the primary Internet connection components. System appears to be working since then. This outage log will be left open until Monday, 11/28. (posted 11/26/05 9:30pm)
Internet connection is down
Outage was caused by an EMU network device that stopped responding. Service was restored after the device was restarted.
Internet outage
There will be an upgrade to some hardware that connects EMU to the Internet. This outage will NOT affect on-campus access to file and print servers. It WILL affect the ability to receive and send email (no, nothing will be lost) and to access the Internet.
No one from off campus will be able to access any of EMU’s systems. (examples: Lancaster, NYC, and off-campus Blackboard users).
Internet outage
Internet connection is down. Fiberoptic cable has been broken somewhere off campus. Ntelos is fixing it – should be back by noon.
The following services are NOT available:
1. Inbound phone calls (callers get a busy signal).
2. Outbound local phone calls, including 800 numbers (you get a busy signal).
3. Internet connectivity, including outside email. This also means people cannot get to our websites.
The following service SHOULD be available:
1. Outbound long distance phone calls (other than toll-free calls).
NOON UPDATE: nTelos now estimates that repairs will be completed by 1:30PM.
Internet connection down
Opened a ticket with nTelos commercial support. Found to be a problem with a piece of EMU equipment. After a reset, the connection was restored.
Internet response time may be slow
Due to an issue outside of EMU’s network, internet access may be slow. Webpages may take longer than usual to load, email may be inaccessible and terminal services may be unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Internet outage
There needs to be a short internet outage of approx 5 min. This is to change a configuration on our internet router to stay in sync with our internet provider. This should help with the stability of our internet connection.
Done, we are now on a new router from Ntelos. BGP also now has a password attached to it, and the routes have been changed.
Internet outage
Internet service was not available. We checked with our provider, which said a major outage ocurred, but that service had been restored.
Internet Outage
Our internet provider is experiencing a technical difficulties. They have not indicated when to expect service to resume.

3/18/05 04:45pm Problem is with a large router at our ISP’s (nTelos) facility. InfoSYS opened a trouble ticket with nTelos. At about 4:30pm service was briefly restored following an nTelos “power cycle” but soon went down again about 4:30pm. No estimated time for restoration of service.
————————————
3/17/05 05:05pm Info Systems contacted nTelos for an update. System is still down. Likely a major problem since the previous power cycle of the nTelos router failed to fix the problem. There is no estimate on when service will be restored. Since it is now almost an hour prospects are NOT good for a quick fix. Could be several hours. nTelos will confirm with Info Systems when they believe the problem is solved.

3/17/05 05:30pm InfoSystems received call from nTelos that the problem has been resolved.
