UPDATE: A fiber optic link serving a couple of switches in the campus center failed and a new one was made live. Connectivity has been restored.
We are currently experiencing network issues in Campus Center South, first and second floor. Technicians are working on the issue.
Early this morning network connectivity was disrupted to the south-east portion of the Harrisonburg campus by a power failure in the Hartzler Library.
If you encounter problems accessing network drives or logging in, please restart your computer. If you continue to have problems after restarting, please contact the helpdesk: firstname.lastname@example.org or 540 432 4357 (x4357 on the Harrisonburg campus).
There is a small chance that electrical repair work in the library may cause further disruption today. Facilities and IS are working to prevent that.
Thanks to Facilities staff for their quick–and early-morning–response to the power problems!
Affected buildings in south-east Harrisonburg campus include:
- Suter Science Center
- Martin Store / CJP
- Weaver House
- Brunk House
- Rutt House
- Rutt Annex
- Anderson House
- Suter 2 House
On Saturday, January 7, from 7:30 am until late in the evening, significant improvements will be made to the network closet on the third floor of the Campus Center. During this time there will be no phone, network, or WiFi access on the third floor. Other areas of the building will not be affected.
Technicians are working on the issue.
ALL network services will be unavailable Monday, December 28 from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. This includes all wired and wireless network connectivity and any service that relies on it. All EMU websites including but not limited to www.emu.edu, my.emu.edu, and moodle.emu.edu will be unavailable on and off-campus. This is the third of three major outages required to upgrade core network equipment.
At the Lancaster site, wireless and any connectivity to Harrisonburg will be affected, but other services should remain available.
If you have questions or concerns please contact the information systems helpdesk: email@example.com or 540.432.4357 (x4357 on the Harrisonburg campus).
Due to flooding in the basement, there is no network connectivity in Rutt House.
Access to the internet and internal network services, wireless access in particular, will be interrupted early Wednesday morning as servers providing core network services including IP address assignment, name resolution, and wireless authentication will be upgraded.
Update, 5:00pm:All services are restored.
Update, 2:00pm:Problems continue and technicians are pursuing several mitigations. We have extended the outage until 5:00pm. While most critical services remain functional we expect occasional interruptions of service to continue.
Update, noon: Problems have occurred with the upgrade. At this time we do not know how long it will take to resolve them. While most critical services remain functional we expect occasional interruptions of service to continue.
Between 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM Information Systems will be replacing a core component of the network. All network services–including but not limited to, internet access, printing, myEMU, Moodle, and SIS–will be interrupted for brief intervals as connections are transferred to the new equipment. This will affect services in Harrisonburg, Lancaster, and off-campus. We recommend against using the network or network services during this time, but if you do, please be prepared for service interruptions.
If you have questions or concerns please contact the Information Systems Helpdesk at firstname.lastname@example.org or x4357 (540-432-4357).
This Saturday, June 27 beginning at 9:00 AM, Information Systems will be making configuration changes to our network to accommodate a second internet service provider. This will result in multiple intermittent interruptions in both the ability of on-campus users to access the internet (perhaps most importantly Google), as well as off-campus users’ ability to access services provided by EMU, such as Moodle and myEMU. While we expect work to be completed by 1:00 PM, it may take some internet sites longer to re-establish communication with EMU so you may notice inconsistencies until later in the day. We expect these will be few, if any.
Services that do not require internet access for on-campus users including, but not limited to, file access, printing, myEMU, and Moodle will remain available for on-campus users.
Network connectivity issues have been reported in the Science Center, and problems have been identified. Technicians are working on the problem.
