Internet outage

There will be an upgrade to some hardware that connects EMU to the Internet. This outage will NOT affect on-campus access to file and print servers. It WILL affect the ability to receive and send email (no, nothing will be lost) and to access the Internet.

No one from off campus will be able to access any of EMU’s systems. (examples: Lancaster, NYC, and off-campus Blackboard users).

Intermittent Long Distance Outage

Early this morning InfoSys personnel discovered voice problems with outbound long distance calls. A trouble ticket was opened with our long distance provider.

This problem was orginally thought to only affect EMU, but as it turns out, is affecting other institutions. Our service provider has escalated the ticket to the highest level.

Users may experience crackly voice service, and at times, be cut off. This will also affect inbound 8XX service.

7/22/05, 11:00 A.M.: Service has been fixed, and is now working correctly.

Internet outage

Internet connection is down. Fiberoptic cable has been broken somewhere off campus. Ntelos is fixing it – should be back by noon.

The following services are NOT available:
1. Inbound phone calls (callers get a busy signal).

2. Outbound local phone calls, including 800 numbers (you get a busy signal).

3. Internet connectivity, including outside email. This also means people cannot get to our websites.

The following service SHOULD be available:
1. Outbound long distance phone calls (other than toll-free calls).

NOON UPDATE: nTelos now estimates that repairs will be completed by 1:30PM.

Anti-virus system maintenance

The primary anti-virus server has been taken offline for imaging. The imaging process is taking longer than expected but should be complete by 9:00am.

Workstation anti-virus protection was not compromised by this outage. InfoSys monitored Sophos anti-virus updates and only one low-risk update was released during the outage.

All systems are now functioning normally.
