A component of our core UPS failed, triggering the automatic shutdown of several systems including Moodle, the web server, myEMU and EX. After verifying that the UPS could operate temporarily without the failed component technicians restored function to the shut-down systems.

SIS and myEMU servers update
There will be a short outage of Jenzabar EX and myEMU, until approximately 7:30 am, to install updates to the database & retention servers.
Moodle maintenance outage
Wednesdayday (14 Aug) from 10:30pm to 12:00am we will performing brief maintenance on our Moodle system.

Scheduled outage: WordPress
This Thurs (8 Aug) between 7:30 and 8:30am we will be upgrading WordPress.
No other systems will be affected.

Internet provider outage
Our Internet provider experienced brief service problems.
Mail server rebot
After reports of slow response we restarted the mail server. No email was affected, only access to it was disrupted while the server was offline.
End-user VPN outage
On Tue-Wed 30-31 Jul Information Systems will have a contractor on campus upgrading on our VPN system (vpn.emu.edu). End-user VPN connections will be unavailable during this time. Site-to-site connections–those between our Harrisonburg campus and Lancaster and Washington locations–will not be affected.
The upgrade will improve VPN function but will require a change in the way VPN connections are managed on your devices. We will not have full details about that change until the contractor arrives. We will send further information and instructions once they are finalized.

Network, phone outage in Martin Store, Weaver, Brunk houses
The demolition of Martin House later this summer requires us to move network and phone cables during the week of 22 Jul. On Monday, 22 Jul the buildings of CJP–Martin Store, Brunk House and Weaver House–will be without network, wireless, Internet and phone services. Work begins around 8:30am and is expected to complete by the end of day.
CJP faculty and staff access to phone, voicemail, email and other network services will be limited during this outage.

UPDATE: 07/22 12:00 In a mid-day status update to us, the contractor believes that there is little chance of network and telecom services being restored by end-of-day today (07/22). They will provide us with an estimated return-of-services time later this afternoon which we will post to this Outage record. (added by Jack Rutt)

UPDATE: 07/22 15:45 The contractor estimates that services will be back online by early Tuesday afternoon (probably around 1:00pm) if all continues at the current pace. They will be on the job early Tuesday morning (7:00am) in order to make this happen. (added by Jack Rutt)

UPDATE: 07/23 14:00 Terminating the fiber and copper cables is going slower than originally estimated, but there are no significant issues. We now expect that the computer network to Martin Store and Weaver House will be restored by 5:00pm today. Telephone connections will not likely be restored until sometime on Wednesday (07/24) for all three locations. (added by Jack Rutt)

UPDATE: 07/24 07:00 Telecom connectivity is problematic and expected to be resolved on Wednesday morning. Brunk House computer network may be taken off-line for a very brief time on Wednesday to perform a cable test that was not completed on Tuesday. (added by Jack Rutt)

UPDATE: 07/24 10:00 All telecom connectivity has been restored. Some testing procedures need to be completed which may involve a brief interruption of computer network connectivity in Brunk House at some point today. Scheduled Maintenance Outage: Moodle
This Friday (5 July 2013) is a scheduled information systems maintenance outage. We will be upgrading the Moodle LMS.
We expect outages for Moodle only between 7:00am and 8:00am on the 5th:

The upgrade is proceeding normally but is taking longer than anticipated. We anticipate Moodle will be available by 8:30am.

Scheduled outage: myEMU
This Wed (26 Jun) between 6:00 and 9:00am is a information systems maintenance outage. We will be repairing myEMU after discovering undocumented problems with yesterday’s upgrade.
We expect an outage for myEMU between 6:00am and 9:00am on Tuesday the 25th. No other systems will be affected.
