The web server (WWW), one of our mail servers (TCell) will be taken offline for routine imaging. Web and calendar services will be offline while their respective servers are imaged and no email will be sent or received while TCell is imaged though users will be able to access their email and send emails for later processing.
Mail and calendar server testing and imaging
The primary mail server (MS) will be offline for testing to prepare for the Novell upgrade later in June and so that an image can be taken of the current configuration. Email will be inaccessible during the outage though no email will be lost.
The calendar server will also be offline for imaging. No data will be lost but calendar services will be unavailable.
FSAPPS hard drive failure
One of FSAPPS’s hard drives failed this morning (or last night).
It is the bottom drive from the top bay. This drive is mirrored with the one above it. This is logical drive 0. Physical drive – Channel 0, ID 1.
I reseated the drive and it started the rebuild process. If it fails again when I’m not around, please replace the drive with one of our spares.
Internet Outage – Service Provider Problem
Internet service began failing at about 16:30pm. DNS requests refused by nTelos, our Internet provider. Internet failed totally at 16:55.
nTelos called back at 17:20 to say they had a major failure that required a reboot of a big router which was done about 16:55. Everything was back on-line at 17:20.
Sophos update server restart
av.emu.edu, the server providing Sophos updates to the campus community, will be taken off-line for a few minutes to relocate its power cable.
Calendar: Server is non-responsive
The system was not available for user or administrative access, and was restarted. File system and database repair utilities were run.
Calendar outage.
The web component of the calendar server was offline for unknown reasons. When restarted the server reported no errors.
Web survey system – 5/10 9-10am
The survey/form system will be going through an upgrade process sometime between 4/29 and 5/10. Exact timing will be posted here.

Novell Faculty/Staff server outage (FS SERVER) – 1 hour outage
The Faculty/Staff Novell server (FS) will be down for about 1 hour to install a new tape drive.
Tape drive and SCSI card were added. No power cord was available, so a “Y” adaptor was used to jumper from SCSI drive backplane to the new tape drive.
The latest NWTAPE and ADPT160M drivers were loaded.
Also took down LD and installed the new memory. It is now at 2G – which is maxed out.
SIS disk controller card replacement
The Student Information System (iSeries, Campus Web) will be unavailable while a disk controller card is replaced. A one hour interuption is anticipated.
The systems affected will be Jenzabar application software (TEAMS2000) and CampusWeb (https://campusweb.emu.edu). CampusWeb provides student access to their financial information (billings and FinAid) as well as final class grades.
No other systems are affected by this outage.
