FS Novell Server at 100% with very little being done. Flooded with bursting packets. Rebooted at 8:15am. Graceful shutdown successful. Services restored by 8:30am.
3hr Maintenance Outage for EMail
Reconfiguration of email infrastructure to integrate new mail server hardware. Significant milestone toward implementation of IMAP email which we hope to have implemented fully by July 2002.
1.5hr ST Novell Server Crash
ST Novell server became unstable. Possibly due to addition of Open File Mgr software installed earlier in day. Returned to service at 22:30. Disk repair run with no errors found.
6 Hour Server Maintenance Outage
Maintenance outage for all servers. Extended outage for Novell servers. Install new directory services, create system recovery images, update all disk and array drivers.
ST drive failure – no server downtime.
ST server – drive in slot 1 of raid 5 failed again. Drive was moved to mail server to verify it is what is bad. A replacement 36 Gig drive was ordered from Dell. A drive from the mail server was used and the replacement drive will go into the mail server.
Disk Failure on ST (Student) Novell Server – no server downtime.
A disk on ST failed. System remained operational on RAID 5. On 2/2 at 11:30am Jason took reseated hot-swap drive. Immediately began automatic rebuild. Rebuild completed at 11:50am without errors.
FS (Faculty/Staff) Novell Server Crash
FS server crashed. Reason unknown. Restarted 2/02 11:30 by Jason. Volume repair performed. No errors encountered.
Novell ST (student) Server Crash
The ST Novell server ‘ab-ended’ (i.e. crashed) for unknown reasons. Was returned to service at 11:50 after running standard disk validation and repairs program.
EMail ERROR Messages Between 10:55 and 11:15
One of the EMU Email Servers errored during Sophos email virus definitions update. All mail sent or received between 10:55 and 11:10 was flagged, erroneously, as having a virus and would have been ‘bounced’ back to the sender. If you sent an email during this time period and received a ‘bounce’ message rejecting it because of a ‘virus’, disregard it and send again.
IEP Network Connection Failure
There was a problem with the connection to the IEP switch. It was traced to an unplugged power supply to one of the 100 meg media converters/switches in the Data Center.
