File Server Outage
Data volumes on the file servers file1 and file2 need to be enlarged. The servers will be offline during this process. Total downtime is expected to be no more than 30 minutes.
Novell printing & login briefly unavailable
The server that provides logon and printing services for Windows XP computers has an error and must be restarted. If your computer has been upgraded to Windows 7, this will not affect you.
File Server File2 hung and was rebooted
The Windows file server File2 hung while installing backup software and had to be rebooted.
FS Server rebooted
The FS Novell server crashed and was rebooted.
Faculty/Staff P: and G: Drives Unavailable Fri, 09/16, 5:30PM
UPDATE: The migration process has completed successfully.
All faculty and staff need to logoff by 5:30pm in preparation for Info Systems move of P-drive and G-drive data from Novell servers to Microsoft servers as part of the EMU systems migration from Novell to Microsoft.
It is important that employees logoff which prevents file changes to P: and G: drive data during the file migration process which begins at 5:30pm on September 16th and will conclude sometime on Sunday, September 18th.
Other online systems such as the following, will NOT be affected by this outage:
* Internet access/wireless access
* Student access to lab computers
* Printing
* Email
* Oracle calendar
* Web servers
* Moodle
* myEMU
* Astra Schedule
* SIS/EX (except PowerFAIDs users who are dependent upon G-drive for some functions)
Off-campus access to network files via NetStorage will NOT be available during this outage.
Faculty and staff will NOT be able to login to LAB and TEACHER WORKSTATION computers.
Check this outage status page for updates during the weekend of September 16-18 for the latest on this file migration process. We are hopeful that the process will be completed sometime Sunday afternoon, 09/18.
09/18 12:30PM: “All-Clear” given by Network Systems team. Email will be sent to faculty/staff by Jack.
Faculty/Staff Z: Drive Unavailable Fri, 08/19, 5:30PM
As part of the project to move from Novell to Microsoft, all files and folders on the Faculty/Staff Z: drive will be copied to the new Microsoft server. This Z: drive will be taken off-line at 5:30pm on Friday, 08/19/2011. Service will be restored by about noon on Saturday, 08/20/2011.
When the process is complete a second prompt for the user’s password will appear during the network login process. This is necessary because, for most employees, this migration of Z: drive data will be the first time they will access files stored on the new Microsoft file servers. Eventually, as departments are moved, one-by-one, to be completely located on the Microsoft servers (P: drives, G: drives and the physical computers themselves) the need for this second password entry prompt will disappear.
Moving Student Files from Novell (ST) to Microsoft (ROYALS)
As the next step in the process of Information Systems moving from Novell to Microsoft for network file and print services, we will be moving STUDENT files. This will impact users as follows:
The process begins at noon on Thursday, 04 AUG and we hope to complete it by noon on Friday, 05 AUG.
There will be NO network access to student PERSONAL files (P: drive), SHARED files (Z: drive) or CLASSDATA files (V: drive).
Lab computers will be usable but for STUDENTS no P:, Z: or V: drives will be mapped. Any EMU employees who login to a lab computer (or teacher workstation) will not have V: drive mapping.
Specialty programs on lab computers that execute from the M: drive will be unavailable.
Lab computers WILL be able to access the Internet as well as the lab printers.
After the STUDENT files have been moved to the Microsoft network (we have named it the ROYALS domain), several things will be different for all users. A follow up email will be sent when the process has been completed and it will describe the changes brought about with moving STUDENT data to the Microsoft ROYALS domain.
This outage announcement will be updated when the process has been completed about noon on Friday, 05 AUG.
Faculty/Staff Novell Server Crash
Faculty/Staff (FS) Novell server crashed. Reboot was initiated. Likely a result of previous instability issues with the server.
Faculty/Staff Novell Server Instability
Network Systems techs performed a routine reboot of the Faculty/Staff (FS) server at 7am this morning and encountered difficulties. Network services for login, printing and web browser file access using NetStorage may return intermittent failures. If you encountered login errors, restart your computer.
Network Systems techs are working to stabilize the FS Novell server. We don’t have an estimated time for resolution.
