Internet and systems outage – Moodle and printing continuing

We will be updating core network infrastructure. Please expect disruptions as follows:

– 8:30 – 9:30am: Internet connection
– 8:00 – 12:30pm: Many EMU servers including moodle, mail, myEMU, web, file and print services.
– 12:30 – 2:45pm: Moodle and calendar.

Technicians encountered some problems during their work but were able to solve them within an extended outage. We appreciate the community’s patience.

Failed Internet Traffic Management Device (NetEnforcer)

The NetEnforcer bandwidth management appliance failed completely. We are unable to manage Internet traffic which will result in slow Internet connections for everyone.

A replacement is being shipped to us and we expect to receive it on Monday but some time will be required to configure it and place in service.

We will update this outage as our progress towards repair progresses.

UPDATE (08/27 10:00am): We have received confirmation that the replacement unit has been shipped. Unfortunately, it shipped from Israel and will not arrive until noon on Wednesday, 08/29 (current ETA, which could change). Our Internet connection monitoring data indicate that performance has been better than expected (considering the circumstances) but we are urging everyone on campus be judicious in their use of the Internet for things that require significant bandwidth (i.e. streaming video and audio).
