E-mail Outage
4:00pm -UPDATE STATUS- The e-mail server recovery process is now complete and our testing appears to show that the system can be made available to all users. Mail received after about 8:00am this morning should begin to appear in mailboxes but it will likely take until tomorrow before it is completely delivered. Because there has been a massive number of messages queued for delivery to your InBox, there may be some anomalies to the sequence in which they are being listed as “received”. This is unavoidable and does not represent a system problem.
If you already have WebMail or Outlook open we recommend you close these programs and restart them to ensure that they are talking properly with the server.
Please contact the Info Systems Helpdesk if you have any questions (helpdesk@emu.edu; x4357 on-campus; 540-432-4357 off-campus).
We apologize for the significant inconvenience this e-mail outage has been for the EMU campus community. We will do everything possible to ensure that a similiar situation does not occur in the future.

12:45pm -UPDATE STATUS- The e-mail server process of recovery is taking significantly longer than expected. Unless there is a sudden change to the process indicators our e-mail servers will not be back online until sometime after 5pm. We apologize for this severe inconvenience for the entire campus community. It is our expectation that e-mail services will be functional by 8am tomorrow morning (Wed, 10/21).
08:45am -INITIAL POSTING- We are currently experiencing a problem with the e-mail server that requires it to be shut down for several hours. We expect service to resume around 1:00pm. New e-mail messages are being queued but may require some time to be delivered after e-mail services are restored. We will update this outage info as needed.
Scheduled webserver outage
Software configuration changes are needed on the webserver. Service disruptions will be intermittent throughout this period.
Scheduled Internet & network outage
Hardware and software upgrades are needed for two critical network devices. Internet access will be affected for about one hour, while all network access will be interrupted a few times, briefly (a few minutes, each).
Scheduled SIS and myEMU outage
SIS and myEMU will be down for about one hour, to move the “temporary DB” used by complicated queries to its own disk partition. This should prevent the infrequent “runaway query” from stopping others that are not using tempdb.
