Blackboard upgrade phase 2
This is the second outage required in the Blackboard server upgrade process.
Intermittent Long Distance Outage
Early this morning InfoSys personnel discovered voice problems with outbound long distance calls. A trouble ticket was opened with our long distance provider.
This problem was orginally thought to only affect EMU, but as it turns out, is affecting other institutions. Our service provider has escalated the ticket to the highest level.
Users may experience crackly voice service, and at times, be cut off. This will also affect inbound 8XX service.
7/22/05, 11:00 A.M.: Service has been fixed, and is now working correctly.
FSAPPS Novell server crash
FSAPPS server stopped responding. Server was rebooted.
Blackboard outage
This is the first of 2 outages that are required to upgrade the Blackboard software to updated versions.
Due to an unanticipated hardware failure during the upgrade process, Blackboard will remain unavailable until late Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
FS Server Outage
The FS server crashed during a routine maintenance operation. It was restored to service after a restart.
Internet outage
Internet connection is down. Fiberoptic cable has been broken somewhere off campus. Ntelos is fixing it – should be back by noon.
The following services are NOT available:
1. Inbound phone calls (callers get a busy signal).
2. Outbound local phone calls, including 800 numbers (you get a busy signal).
3. Internet connectivity, including outside email. This also means people cannot get to our websites.
The following service SHOULD be available:
1. Outbound long distance phone calls (other than toll-free calls).
NOON UPDATE: nTelos now estimates that repairs will be completed by 1:30PM.
Anti-virus system maintenance
The primary anti-virus server has been taken offline for imaging. The imaging process is taking longer than expected but should be complete by 9:00am.
Workstation anti-virus protection was not compromised by this outage. InfoSys monitored Sophos anti-virus updates and only one low-risk update was released during the outage.
All systems are now functioning normally.
Anti-virus system maintenance
The primary anti-virus update server (used by Sophos Remote Update) was taken off line for exploratory maintenance this morning in preparation for a comprehensive Sophos upgrade in the future.
Campus Web Outage
Campus Web will be unavailable for one hour on Tuesday, June 28 beginning at 5:00 pm. for a routine end of fiscal year procedure. SIS will be available and will not be affected by this outage.
