In preparation for our replacement VoiceMail system it is necessary to make some routing configuration changes to the NEC phone switch. During the time of this configuration internal calls related to 6xxx extensions will be unavailable.

Harrisonburg voicemail system problems
Last night, apparently due to lightning, we lost some functionality of our voicemail system. We have taken the system offline to run tests and try to restore full functionality.
Within an hour, we will send another update on the status of the system and what, if any, actions you may need to take.
Scheduled: voicemail and phone
Saturday July 19 between 8:00am and noon is a scheduled maintenance outage for Harrisonburg campus voicemail and (briefly) phone systems. We are improving power delivery in the data center.
We expect outages as follows for the phone and voicemail system:
– Voicemail will be unavailable between 8:00am and noon. Phone calls will ring until answered or ended. Saved voicemail messages will be preserved but unavailable during the outage.
– Phone service to some extensions will be disrupted briefly at some point between 8:00am and noon while we reboot portions of the phone system. The disruption will last only a few minutes but we cannot determine exactly when it will occur.
If you have questions or concerns please contact the information systems helpdesk: helpdesk@emu.edu or 540.432.4357 (x4357 on the Harrisonburg campus).
Entire EMU Telephone Switch Off-Line
The EMU telephone switch (PBX) went off-line about 7:15pm tonight. Information Systems became aware of and began working on the problem within the hour. The cause of the problem is believed to be power-related.
RGU failure: certain analog telephones not ringing
Certain analog phones on campus are not able to ring due to a ring unit failure, and a failure of the redundant ring unit.
We have implemented a work around to solve the problem, but are operating without redundancy in other units.
Telephone cabling repair â scheduled
The South telephone cable is being respliced to correct bad connections. This will affect telephone service for all phones in buildings south of the Campus Center (but not the CC). Any given phone should be out less than an hour.
Some phones in Northlawn not in service
Equipment failure has interrupted telephone service for Northlawn 4th floor, as well as some of Northlawn 3rd floor.
We anticipate having the equipment replaced by the end of the day.
Long Distance Outage
Information Systems has received notification from Qwest, our long distance provider, that they are experiencing a state wide long distance outage. They are, “aware of the problem and working diligently to get it repaired.”
Inbound 800# Outage
Our long distance provider is making changes to our circuit to fix a reocurring problem.
Intermittent Long Distance Outage
Early this morning InfoSys personnel discovered voice problems with outbound long distance calls. A trouble ticket was opened with our long distance provider.
This problem was orginally thought to only affect EMU, but as it turns out, is affecting other institutions. Our service provider has escalated the ticket to the highest level.
Users may experience crackly voice service, and at times, be cut off. This will also affect inbound 8XX service.
7/22/05, 11:00 A.M.: Service has been fixed, and is now working correctly.
