Unscheduled: Phone System Issues

October 24, 2024, 12:30pm: Resolved

Over the summer users began reporting issues with answering incoming phone calls. The call will “split” and the recipient will have anywhere from 5 – 30 calls seemingly coming from one number that can’t be picked up. The phone will continue ringing and the user is unable to answer.

Technicians have been working with our phone vendor to find a resolution. Unfortunately there is not a quick fix. We continue to work toward a resolution and will post updates as they occur.

Rescheduled: myEMU & J1

Progress Updates:

  • 6:50 AM J1 Web, myEMU, and J1 desktop are all available. IT will continue to solve problems over the next few days.
  • 5:00 AM J1 Desktop 2023.2 Patch 1 is installed and available on RDS and staff computers that were connected to the network. J1 Web has not yet been upgraded.
  • 2:20 AM DDU is no longer running hoping Jenzabar will soon confirm successful completion of this step. Kent is starting EMU permissions and customization steps
  • 12:30 AM Still not making progress-sorry
  • 10:45 PM still running data definition utility
  • 10 PM currently running the data definition utility
  • 8 PM Continuing J1 update to adjust database structure
  • 6:20 PM Jenzabar
  • 5:40 Create backup database
  • 5 PM Volume snapshots started

There is a planned outage of the Student Information System (Jenzabar J1) on March 5th (Tuesday of Spring Break) from 5:00 PM to 3:00 AM on March 6th. myEMU will also be upgraded and will not be available 5:00 PM until 5:30PM and from 7:30PM and until 9:30PM on March 5th.

This outage is for J1 and myEMU. EMU payment processing (CashNET) is dependent on J1 and myEMU and will be down some during the J1 outage. The PowerFAIDS interface to J1 will not work during the upgrade. Other systems should not be affected.

If you use J1 Desktop, please quit J1 before leaving the previous week. If the client is running during the upgrade, you may need to restart your computer after the upgrade for J1 to work correctly.

We are updating to J1 2023.2 at this time because the J1 2022.2 version we are currently running is nearing its end of life.

Admin Notes (only visible to administrators)

Scheduled: myEMU & J1

Patch 7 to be applied to J1 Desktop, J1 Web, myEMU 1/31/2024 Shortly after 5PM

Updates: 5:20 PM backup of database completed

6 PM Jenzabar indicates work is complete

The most noticeable activity is on J1 Web there will be an IIS restart. People using J1 Web will lose connections and the ability to communicate with the J1 Web server during the upgrade.

On myEMU (different than J1 Web), Web Application Services (WAS) and Client Application services will be stopped and restarted.  myEMU should remain available but some data will either not be refreshed or be unavailable while the services are restarted.

Patch 7 will be available to any desktop users that want it on 2/1/2024. The patch affects 1098 and 1099 forms so folks in the business office are the people that need it.

Sorry for the short notice.

Scheduled: Moodle upgrade

1/4 UPDATE: The upgrade finished after a delay at around 10 pm last night. We are currently testing all parts of Moodle to make sure everything is working as it should. If you see something that you are not expecting, please e-mail helpdesk@emu.edu. Thanks!

3:35pm: The upgrade is still in process and our vendor is not able to give a timeframe on when it will be completed. We continue to monitor the upgrade and post updates when we have more information.

1:02pm: The upgrade is still in process and running smoothly. Moodle will remain unavailable until the process has completed. We hope it will complete by 3:00pm.

On Wednesday, January 3 9:00-1:00, Moodle will be unavailable while it is updated from version 4.0 to 4.1.

This is a minor update and you can read more about it here: https://docs.moodle.org/401/en/New_features

Updates are necessary to keep Moodle secure, supported and provide access to new features. The timing of this update is inline with our standard practice of updating Moodle in July and Christmas break. If you have any questions, please email helpdesk@emu.edu.
