Scheduled: Upgrade Moodle to v3.3

We will be upgrading Moodle to version 3.3 on Saturday, July 15th from 9am-12pm. This release will bring new features and fixes. Here is a preview of the main features:

  • We will be rolling out the new, updated and simplified theme called “Boost”. This theme also improves how notifications and messages appear. The intent of the theme is for Moodle to look the same across all devices (computer, tablet, and mobile) and while using the Moodle app. See this video for further info.
  • An improved dashboard that allows you to keep track of what is happening in your course activities.
  • The Moodle assignment module will now convert submissions to .pdf allowing you to view the document from your screen without having to download it. You will also be able to grade and annotate from this screen similar to Turnitin. You will still be able to download the submission if that is preferred.

For more details about Moodle 3.3 please refer to the new features tour or the version release notes. There are also a series of videos that describe new version 3.3 features.

Scheduled: SSC Campus upgrade

EAB writes: “As part of our next EAB platform release, we will be performing an extended database maintenance operation.  Given this operation, we will have scheduled downtime, for up to 24 hours so we wanted to give you and your team as much advance notice as possible. This scheduled maintenance will occur over the weekend from Friday, May 5th at 11:00pm EST – Saturday, May 6th at 11:00pm EST.”

MyEMU and Jenzabar EX Scheduled Outage

Tomorrow morning, Friday April 21 from 6:30-7:00 AM, is a scheduled outage for Jenzabar EX and myEMU. Both Jenzabar EX and myEMU will be unavailable during this time. No other systems will be affected by this outage.

We’ve scheduled this outage at an unusual time to correct a problem that causes some EX programs to crash. The need for this fix is urgent. We apologize for any inconvenience.

If you use EX and your computer is not shut down during the upgrade (i.e. before you leave for the day today), you will need to restart it after the upgrade for EX to work correctly.

If you have questions or concerns please contact the Information Systems Helpdesk: helpdesk@emu.edu or 540.432.4357 (x4357 on the Harrisonburg campus).

We expect the outage to be for only EX and myEMU. No other systems will be affected by this outage.
