Update 11/2/21 7:25PM File5 server is back online and access has been restored
We are currently experiencing an unscheduled outage of the File5 server that hosts a number of network file shares. Please check back here for updates.
Update 1/4/19 @ 12:30PM: Upgrade has been completed.
Information Systems will be upgrading the file storage server that hosts the P, G, and Z network drives beginning Friday, January 3 at 7:00 pm through 9 am Saturday, January 4. Because of the unavailability of these drives, logging into workstations on campus will be difficult or impossible during this outage. This upgrade is critical to address security issues.
Due to the failure of a critical server, many services were taken offline unexpectedly. Users may have experienced delays in login times to their computers and and the inability to reach some EMU websites.
This Saturday, 17 June 2017, from 5pm to 10pm is a scheduled Information Systems outage. We will be upgrading a core network storage device. Many services are affected, including:
Services not affected include:
As always we’ll update this post with any changes.
Please contact the Helpdesk with questions or concerns: helpdesk@emu.edu or 540 432 4357 (x4357 on the Harrisonburg campus). (For best results, please contact us before the outage–our systems will be offline too.)
The file server will be rebooted at 10 pm. This will result in the inability to access mapped drives, as well as causing very slow login times on EMU owned computers. These effects should last only a few minutes.
The server hosing EX and a file server were rebooted this morning for routine maintenance. A brief service interruption may have been experienced.
Due to instability of the file server which was affecting access for a number of users, we restarted the server to correct the problems.
Technicians are investigating reports of problems logging in and accessing network drives.
Our primary file server was inaccessible for a period of time.
We are investigating corrupted files on the faculty-staff Z: drive.
UPDATE: The faculty-staff Z: drive has been taken off-line because thousands of files on it are corrupted. We have no ETA on when it will again be available. Likely not until early Thursday morning (but that is purely speculative). JRutt 10/09 15:45
UPDATE: With the Z: drive off-line there will be extended login times for both students and employees, but only the EMPLOYEES Z: drive is off-line. JRutt 10/09 16:00
UPDATE: At about 18:05 all files from the overnight backup of Oct 8-9 on the Z: drive were restored and the files became available about 18:15. An email will be sent to the campus describing for users the impact of this incident and our recovery from it. JRutt 10/09 18:20
